Charcoaled soil flowed down to the very edges of the vineyard and neighboring orchards. At one point, the wind shifted, and toasted a small triangle of grapes. The Fire Departments protected very well.

A portion of this storage / loading are will soon be converted into a kitchen and small restaurant.

Later in the evening, folks enjoyed the shade here. The light breeze made it quite nice outside.

Gotta love our early evening in Tuscany! (Though half kidding; I’m half serious. I’ll be checking out Tuscany this September. I think we’re evolving.)

And, to think the Yakima Valley was once (twice; or, many times) under a giant lake, during the Missoula Floods. Our fertile valley floors were created by the deep sediments of these lakes / floods. And, our fertile valley floors are feeding MANY! Nice Job!

New vineyards, recently planted in the river rock soils. The rocks retain the sun’s heat throughout the night. This natural heat sink keeps the vines nurtured, and growing. This growth results in robust grapes. (And, wine.)

This was once (or, many times) lakefront property. I wonder if Zillow goes back several million years? The river rocks are similar to the terminal moraine left by glaciers (but, much smaller).

Here we are, escaping from our Pinzenhopper (or, whatever it was called), enjoying the view, and a very cool education! I think we all enjoyed this excursion! It was a much appreciated treat!
